[Extendflash] JSFL: Macromedia Request your Feedback

Hi Tomas,

 

1.	I just saw Guy Watson’s blog post and I’d like to second his request
for an event model.  Events in WindowSWFs would be very welcome.  For
instance, WindowSWFs could update themselves when the selected element(s) on
the stage change and/or entering/exiting edit mode.  There tons of events
that would help to make better panels.  I mean WindowSWFs, not SWFs embedded
in XMLUIs (although that might be nice too, I think XMLUIs are modal whereas
WindowSWFs can be docked as panels).
2.	Access to Find/Replace via JSFL like what Fireworks has.  The
Fireworks find/replace API allows for finding and replacing all sorts of
things.  I just breezed over the Flash 8 JSFL docs and I didn’t see that in
there.
3.	A quicker way to access nested elements like say I wanted to
retrieve the text on a textfield nested inside a graphic that’s nested
inside a movieclip.  Currently I use enterEditMode and exitEditMode to
handle this and it’s pretty time-consuming even with
fl.enableImmediateUpdates(false).  There may already be a better way to
access those elements and I just don’t know about it yet.  Let me know if
there is.

I've noted some interest in submitting "JSFL Wish-List" feedback to
Macromedia, along with some confusion about where to post such remarks.
Well, as one of the Flash QA Engineers working with JSFL, I'd say the best
place to send them is to this list, and the best time is now. Although
personally I have not more than a teenie-weenie influence re: what gets
added or improved upon, [no sarcasm, it's really about thisbig ] I can bend
the ear of those with more influence, but users have by far the loudest
voice. [ ie: FLfile came from ur requests. ] With this in mind, Macromedia
periodically asks for the "top 3 things u would like to do with JSFL which
currently are not possible." [because of bugs or functionality which just
isn't currently implemented]. 



So here it is: the First Official Request for "Flash 9" (btw, name TBD) re
JSFL:



Please list the top 3 things u would like to do with JSFL which currently
are not possible, or are possible, just not gracefully.

***Please also note that this is a timely request for u to provide ur
feedback - soon Development resources will be spoken for & changes will get
harder & harder to push through.
