Hey guys,

Kinda of a simple question... not sure if theres a good answer for it
but here it goes.

I've built several panels/commands using the lovely jsapi in flash,
and with one of my larger panels there is alot of ties from AS2
classes to jsfl commands using MMExecute..

Now I'm curious if it's they way I've constructed the calls or just
another quirk but, whenever I do a call to a jsfl script that calls
fl.browseForFileURL(); once I've selected the file and hit OK, I
immediately get the "A script is running slowly.." error, hitting NO
seems to work fine and the user can be on his/her way.. but generally
most people would click YES to avoid system crash/slow down.

Is there a way to avoid this error when calling MMExecute from within
an AS based panel?

Thanks,
Ryan Matsikas

As far as I know, yes.
Just a very slow topic apparently.

I'm glad that there are people "here"!

So here's a problem I've been wrestling with going on two days.

I've made a custom tool (won't bore you with the details unless it
becomes necessary to further the discussion...) and in the course of it
I use the "addNewText" Document method. As advertised, this creates a
text field within the bounds I dictate and (here's the key part) leaves
it selected and ready to be typed into. The problem is that this
switches my tool to the "Text" tool and completely negates any mouseMove
or mouseUp functions for my custom tool. Actually to be more specific,
the mouseMove DOES fire, but does not acknowledge that the button is
still down -- fl.tools.mouseIsDown is "true".  Document.selectNone()
does nothing to change this.

I've even tracked the "fl.tools.activeTool" property. The trace reveals
that immediately before the "addNewText" line "fl.tool.activeTool"
returns "[object Tools]". Immediately after: "null". And "null" it
remains for the rest of the jsfl, ultimately negating any record of the
mouseUp event, and thus that script doesn't execute.

If it's not obvious, what I want, in a nutshell, is to get back control
of the tool(?)/cusor(?)/what-have-you, after the "addNewText" jsfl runs
in the "mouseDown" function (or even the "activateTool" function -- in
desperation I tried running this textField routine from within the
"activateTool" function and it seems to behave identically and with no
adverse effects -- save those detailed above.)

Sorry, my description is too wordy. I just want people to know I've
done my homework and, I guess, to see what I've already attempted so we
don't have to revisit territory I've already covered.

Help... he said weakly.

BTW, the text is set with the "setTextString" method and the
"autoExpand" property must be "false", if either of these details
matter...

Is there a way to test a given frame and find out wether it is already a
keyframe? I feel like this should be very obvious, but I've been
reading/looking/testing for a while with no results...

Thanks for your time,

Geoffrey

I found the following example in the layer.frames entry in the Extending
Flash book. I don't know if you are trying to do this in ActionScript or
JavaScript, but here is one way to do it in JS:

                                   =20

The following example sets the variable frameArray to the array of Frame
objects for the frames in the current document:

var frameArray =3D fl.getDocumentDOM().getTimeline().layers[0].frames;

=20

To determine if a frame is a keyframe, check whether the
frame.startFrame property matches the array index, as shown in the
following example:

var frameArray =3D fl.getDocumentDOM().getTimeline().layers[0].frames;

var n =3D frameArray.length;

for (i=3D0; i<n; i++) {

      if (i=3D=3DframeArray[i].startFrame) {

            alert("Keyframe at: " + i);

      }

}

Hi all,  Hope this works!

I've been working on a little panel to get myself into the whole jsfl thing,
one of the things I'm doing is popping open a file browser, and then
grabbing the name of an .as file and inserting it into the actions layer:

var includeOption = MMExecute("fl.browseForFileURL(\"open\", \"Select .as
file to include\");");

            if (includeOption.length > 0 && includeOption != null)

            {

                                    var file =
includeOption.substr(includeOption.lastIndexOf("/")+1);

                                    var include = file.split("%20").join("
");

....etc etc

It grabs just the filename at the very end of the path and later on I add it
to the actions pane - this works fine, however, what I really want it to do
is give me a relative path to the file - is this possible?

Many thanks,

Jay.

This may be rookie stuff, but I've found this to be QUITE useful.
Hopefully someone else here will get some use out of it as well.

I could not believe that there was not a keystroke to shift focus from
one selected frame to the next. For example, if you had a frame selected
in the timeline and wanted to select the next one to the right / left,
the best the given Macromedia-supplied keystrokes could do was move the
playback head 1-over, but at the same time any and all frames become
deselected. So if you had a sequence with a bunch of 2-frame long
segments that you needed to expand to be 3-frame long segments, you had
to select a new frame (by mouse), then add a new frame (F5), then select
a new frame (by mouse), then add a new frame (F5), etc., etc...

I wrote some quick codes that actually move the selection from frame to
frame, not only left and right but up and down as well. I've chosen to
assign them to SHFT+Left, SHFT+Up, etc. but of course you can assign
them to any keystroke that works for you. So now I can move about my
timeline, adding and deleting frames as needed without ever taking my
fingers off the keyboard!

But enough preamble... Here's the code -- Enjoy:

Select Prev or Left Frame:

	var curDoc =3D fl.getDocumentDOM();
	var curTL =3D curDoc.getTimeline();=20

	if (curTL.currentFrame >=3D 1) {
		curTL.setSelectedFrames((curTL.currentFrame - 1),
(curTL.currentFrame), true);
	}

Select Above Frame:

	var curDoc =3D fl.getDocumentDOM();
	var curTL =3D curDoc.getTimeline();=20

	curTL.currentLayer =3D (curTL.currentLayer - 1);
	curTL.setSelectedFrames((curTL.currentFrame),
(curTL.currentFrame + 1), true);

Select Next or Right Frame:

	var curDoc =3D fl.getDocumentDOM();
	var curTL =3D curDoc.getTimeline();=20

	curTL.setSelectedFrames((curTL.currentFrame + 1),
(curTL.currentFrame + 2), true);

Select Below Frame:

	var curDoc =3D fl.getDocumentDOM();
	var curTL =3D curDoc.getTimeline();=20

	curTL.currentLayer =3D (curTL.currentLayer + 1);
	curTL.setSelectedFrames((curTL.currentFrame),
(curTL.currentFrame + 1), true);

If you don't know how to install commands, either follow the
instructions on pg. 26 of "Extending Flash MX 2004: Complete Guide and
Reference to JavaScript Flash" by Keith Peters and Todd Yard from
Friends of Ed, or email me and I'll walk you through it.

will help you finish it :)

i'll get activity on this list ;)

i've read and searched and did not find a method to prompt a user to
choose a folder. i found one for prompting for a file but i want to
create a command that backups a users folder to another folder.

fl.browseForFileURL("select", "Select location to create backup")

best regards,
judah

Hi guys,

I'm currently working on a moderately complex xml validation project,
and I'm looking at various ways of validating xml documents to a
custom XML schema from within the flash IDE.

Now, originally I was planning to do this via a third party webservice
somewhere - however, I'm thinking about maybe a small command-line
validator would be more practical, and less prone to failure due to
network outages.

However - a couple of things bother me about this approach -

1) I've never done anything so low level before with flash, and don't
know how well defined everything is

and more importantly,

2) Would there be a way to make it cross platform? It would need to
work on macs. We could probably insist on OSX, if that's any help.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is making stuff like this
cross platform pretty much out of the question, or could it be done in
Java perhaps?

Any input would be appreciated.
Cheers,

Ive read that macormedia has a obfuscator for jsfl...
i was wondering how you can get them to obfuscate your files???

Do they do it when you upload to the flash exchange?

I=92ve managed to simulate it by running a macro type of action where =
the
shape is copied and pasted and each time its pasted it basically makes =
it a
few pixels smaller and its=20
=20
Copy it.
Paste it in place.
Reduce size by x%
Increase opacity by x% (stating at a very low opacity like 2%)
Convert it to group.
=85.
Paste it in place.
Reduce size by x%
Increase opacity by x%
Convert it to group.
=85.
Paste it in place.
Reduce size by x%
Increase opacity by x% --- you do this until you get back to 100% or =
what
ever you are after for the main area.
Convert it to group.
=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85=85..and so on=85
=20
The as a final step you select all and break apart to form a single =
shape.
=20
The problem with this is that you also need to supply the base color to =
use
cause I also haven=92t figured out, I don=92t thing there is a way, to =
actually
detect the colors of the shapes you have selected.

Why would you do that ? It's already in the IDE. Just place a shortcut on the menu item, and you're ready to go.

>>>>Why would you do that ?

Because there are more advanced things you can do that require soften =
fill
edges to be done somewhere in the middle. If all you wanted to do was to
soften fill edges then that=92s all you would do, but obviously he's =
trying to
do more. That=92s a pretty silly question.

>>> Just place a shortcut on the menu item, and you're ready to go.
That would be a good solution except you can initiate shortcuts from =
JSFL
either so it's not a solution at all.

Hopefully in Flash 8 the solution will be a better one, I for one would =
like
to see this implemented as part of the api and additionally the ability =
to
control which edges of the shape are soften rather that the whole object =
;)
